Thomas McAffee is a William S. Boyd Professor of Law at UNLV.On March 9, he was quoted in the Las Vegas Sun article Hints of autonomy for community colleges? The article focuses on the discussion of whether Nevada's community colleges should continue to report to the state's Board of Regents, or if they should be allowed to operate independently.
"The Legislature can decide to keep the system the way it is, or to take a different approach. But what the Legislature can't do is bail on the subject, saying that the constitution doesn't allow them to do this. It can. And this is an important statewide public policy issue that is worth discussion," Professor McAffee said in the article.
